Thank you for visiting the Junior League of Collin County website.

The Junior League of Collin County is celebrating its 41st year of mission-based volunteering in our community.  Beginning in 1976 with 13 visionary women who committed themselves to improving our community and implementing positive change while addressing critical community issues, they laid the foundation of who we are today.  I aspire to reach the high standard of volunteerism they set over 40 years ago when Plano was one of the fastest growing, and changing, communities.

The Junior League of Collin County is an organization of women, committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action of trained volunteers.   Our mission has held strong for over 40 years and continues to set the firm foundation for projects and programs in our community. We are a diverse group of women who embrace our core values of Service, Respect and Leadership.  We mentor youth and children.  We raise the awareness of family violence by educating members and community agencies.  We recognize and offer solutions to the problem of literacy in our community. We promote health and wellness. And provide financial support through our various projects and community grants.

I have been an active member of our League for 27 of these 41 years, having served in various roles and currently repeating the placement of President.  As I wrote my President’s letter in 1997-98, our League was about half its current size.  The surrounding areas of Collin County were still being developed, and our League was named the Junior League of Plano.  Fast forward to 2017-18, our League has more than doubled in membership. Frisco, Allen and McKinney have grown to thriving communities, and we are now the Junior League of Collin County to better define who we serve.  However, what has not changed in twenty years is the consistent training, education and leadership opportunities of our League membership.  We offer annual leadership trainings, skills training with Interaction Associates’ Facilitative Leadership®, Essentials of Facilitation® and Pathways to Change®. Our members are offered additional training through our governing body, Association of Junior Leagues International.  We offer community trainings at no cost to nonprofit agencies and our members through our Nonprofit Excellence Workshop, ensuring that our local agencies and members operate at a high level.

Thank you to our sponsors, community partners, members and their families for your support.  Without our members’ countless hours researching, planning and implementing our projects, events and fundraisers and without sponsor and community partner financial backing, we could not accomplish what we do and have done for 40 years.  #40strong #missiondriven

Aspire and Inspire,

Sheri Steele

President, 2017-2018

Our History

Originally founded by thirteen visionary women in 1976 as the Plano Service League, the organization became the Junior League of Plano when it was accepted into the Association of Junior Leagues International in 1984.  In 2011, the Junior League of Plano adopted a new name, the Junior League of Collin County to more accurately reflect the growing countywide membership and expanding community impact.  Our League has a deep history in the Collin County community, and through the decades, our members have remained committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community.  Evidence of this impactful work can be seen all across our community, as our members have engaged in community building since the earliest days of the League, and Junior League of Collin County members engage and commit to making positive change and serving as leaders across the community.
